Established in 2003 as a joint venture between Asia Aviation and AirAsia Investment, and was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in May 2012. Thai AirAsia commenced its inaugural commercial flight on 4 February 2004 from Bangkok to Hat Yai, and now operating from hubs in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Established in 2007, it is the long-haul, low-cost affiliate carrier of the AirAsia Group and currently flies to destinations in the Asia Pacific region. Operates from its hub in Kuala Lumpur.

Established in 2014, It is an extension of Asia’s leading low cost carrier, AirAsia, and seeks to deliver everyday low fares to travellers seeking to travel to destinations greater than four hours flight time from its hub, Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport.
Indonesia AirAsia X - Airline code: XT
Indonesia AirAsia X is Indonesia’s first long-haul, low-cost carrier and an affiliate of the AirAsia Group. The airline currently offers direct flight from Denpasar, Bali to Taipei, Taiwan and Melbourne, Australia. Indonesia AirAsia X operates on Airbus A330-300s, with a seat configuration of 12 Business Class seats and 365 Economy seats. Our vision is to solidify our position as the national and global leader in long-haul, low-cost aviation and to build a strong network along with other carriers of the AirAsia Group.

Tony has been the Group CEO of AirAsia since December 2001. Prior to AirAsia, he was the Financial Controller of Virgin Communications London before joining Warner Music International London in 1989. He was promoted to Managing Director, Warner Music Malaysia in 1992 and to Regional Managing Director, Warner Music South East Asia in 1996. In 1999, he became the Vice President of Warner Music South East Asia.
Together with partners, Tony founded Tune Air Sdn Bhd in 2001, with a vision to democratize air travel and free it from the clutches of the elite by offering low fares and high quality services. They bought the then loss making AirAsia from its Malaysian owner DRB-Hicom, for a token RM1 (USD 0.25 cents), and agreed to take on the airline’s RM40 million debt.
Driven by Fernandes and with the help of his partners, AirAsia repaid that debt in less than two years; despite the fact that it was operating in an extremely challenging environment in the post-September 11, 2001, era. It started with two planes (Boeing 737-300’s), one destination (Pulau Langkawi) and a staff of 250.
AirAsia X Group CEO - Datuk Kamarudin Meranun
Datuk Kamarudin was announced as the Group CEO of AirAsia X effective 30th January 2015, and in this role, Datuk Kamarudin will spearhead developing the overarching strategy for the AirAsia X Group, which encompasses AirAsia X Berhad, AirAsia X Thailand and Indonesia AirAsia Extra.
He co-founded Tune Group Sdn Bhd in 2001 and has been the Executive Chairman of AirAsia Berhad since November 6, 2013.
Datuk Kamarudin's vast experience in the financial industry and prudence in setting the business direction of AirAsia has earned him a number of upgrades in his role with the company. In 13 January 2012, Datuk Kamarudin was re-designated from Group Deputy CEO (a position he held since December 2005) to Deputy Group CEO & President of Group Finance, Treasury, Corporate Finance and Legal. In January 2004, he was appointed Executive Director of the company after 3 years being in the role of Director, of which he was appointed on 12 December 2001. He is also the Chairman of the Employee Share Option Scheme Committee of the Board.
Prior to Airasia, he served at Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank as a Portfolio Manager from 1988 to 1993, managed both institutional and high net-worth individual clients' investment funds. He subsequently acquired the shares of its joint venture partner of Innosabah Capital Management Sdn Bhd, which was later renamed Intrinsic Capital Management Sdn Bhd. Filipino Low Cost Carrier ZestAir has been rebranded in 2013 as AirAsia Zest to reflect its partnership with AirAsia. It now services nine domestic and four international routes from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
