AirAsia was again hailed as the ‘Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier’ award winner by TTG, Asia-Pacific’s leading travel news publisher, at the 23rd Annual TTG Travel Awards in Bangkok recently.
The airline retained its top spot for the sixth time, with the preceding accolade received in 2011.
According to TTG, the event was attended by a total of 700 members of the Asia-Pacific travel trade and garnered a total of 60,000 valid votes—compared to 49,000 votes last year and a 20 percent increase—from June to August for its voted titles.
AirAsia was ultimately handed the crown in the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier category, after the majority validated that the airline’s popularity among travel trade insiders and the travelling public.
AirAsia Thailand Director of Business Development, M.L. Bovornovadep Devakula, represented AirAsia Group to receive the award.
AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes said, “A great achievement for us to come up tops in the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier category. To be recognized by an industry insider such as TTG is an honour for us, more motivation to strive even harder in delivering unparalled products and services. An award for our achievement is amazing, but we must not be complacent but instead remain focused in our quest to provide amazing low fares, superior network and exceptional service.”
This is not the first time AirAsia has been awarded with the Best Asian Low-Cost Carrier title from TTG. The airline was voted winner of the category in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2009, Tony Fernandes was named ‘Travel Personality of the Year’ by the editorial board of TTG.
TTG Asia Media Managing Director, Darren Ng said, “It’s heartening to see our industry colleagues innovate and reinvent their products to stay relevant and in demand. The fact that so many of our winners can return to reclaim their titles is testament to their constant drive for improvement, amidst so many other up-and-coming competitors.”
This award from TTG follows other significant accolades that the airline has received in 2012. On 5 July this year, Aviation Week--highly influential aviation industry magazine in the United States--announced AirAsia as the winner in the magazine's Top-Performing Airlines 2012 report, the leading annual rankings and competitive analysis for the global airline industry.
The airline defeated other established and once-renowned airlines and even Europe's largest low cost carrier. AirAsia was also ranked highest in the US $250 million-$2 billion annual revenue category.
A week later on 13 July, the world’s air travellers--19 million of them—gave their verdict and AirAsia was once again Skytrax’s World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the fourth consecutive year!
The Skytrax World Airline Survey is an annual global survey conducted by respected London-based aviation consultants Skytrax, and AirAsia came out tops in the independent survey that measures airlines’ product and service standards.
AirAsia is a household name which has flown over 150 million guests since it was established ten years ago with a mission to democratize air travel in the region and has been operationally profitable from day one of its launch as a low-cost carrier. The airline also has affiliates in Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Japan, apart from Malaysia servicing 80 destinations across 20 countries.
