AirAsia Launches Semangat Harimau Muda Livery

Sepang, 14 SEPTEMBER 2012

To commemorate their gold medal achievement in the last edition of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), AirAsia World’s Best Low Cost Airline for four consecutive years (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) has honoured the Harimau Muda football team by unveiling a special livery dedicated to the team.

The idea of the livery began when AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes agreed to a Twitter fan that he would paint an aircraft in the Harimau Muda colours if the team won the match. And now the promise has been fulfilled; with a special Airbus A320 decked in the team’s yellow and black colours specially painted by the Sepang Aircraft Engineering Sdn Bhd (SAE) and proudly displays the roaring Malayan Tiger that has long been the symbol of the country’s football team.

The Harimau Muda boys defended their gold medal after downing the Indonesian team at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta through a penalty shoot-out after both teams were levelled at 1-1. This gave Malaysia their sixth gold medal in the SEA Games.

After the match, AirAsia also deployed a special chartered flight to bring the squad home and they were greeted by throngs of fans when they arrived at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal in Sepang.

The launch of the Semangat Harimau Muda livery which was held at the SAE hangar was witnessed by Chairman of AirAsia Berhad, Dato’ Aziz Bakar; Minister of Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery bin Cheek; Football Association of Malaysia General Secretary Yang Hormat Lt General Dato’ Azzuddin Ahmad; Harimau Muda Head Coach Ong Kim Swee and the Harimau Muda players.
