It’s always spring time in Kunming! This ‘City of Eternal Spring’ is known for its flower blossoms and pleasant weather all year long and is also blooming with cultural diversity, where its 25 ethnic groups form the perfect blend of culture and heritage. It is said there are nearly 200 varieties of mushrooms growing around this city--a big favourite is JizongMushroom, usually fried and then braised with garlic, ginger, shallot and tenderloin. When it comes to its must-see places, Shilin tops the list. Known as one of the most dramatic attractions in Kunming, Shilin (Stone Forest) has an amazing set of limestone formation that emanates from the ground, creating an illusion of a forest made of stone. Other great places to visit include Dian Lake (largest freshwater lake in Yunnan), the old town Lijiang (a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich history of 800 years) and the very popular Shangri-la, where the rustic and quaint atmosphere of the town offers breathtaking views of ice-capped mountains on the border of Tibet.
