Travel to Chengdu
Best known as the biggest home to the pandas at the Sichuan Wolong Giant Panda Nature reserve, there’s more to Chengdu than meets the eye. Known by its many nicknames (The City of Hibiscus, The Brocade City, Heavenly State and The Turtle City) the capital of the Sichuan province is a large city with an abundance of great Sichuan food. They may be spicy to the tongue, but one taste and you'll be hooked on the addictive hot-pots filled with Sichuan peppers, Ma Po Tofu (beancurd with minced meat and chilli oil), the widely franchised local Lai Tang Yuan (glutinous rice balls) and the world-famed Kung Pao Chicken--a staple Sichuan cuisine. One lives a leisurely pace at the picture-perfect countrysides amidst profound cultural background and rich history. Ancient relics from the Three Kingdoms can be seen at the Wuhou Shrine museum and Du Fu thatched cottage. The region's most recent historical find is the incredible Golden Sun Bird, made 3,000 years ago with 94.2% gold that represents the four seasons. Don't miss out on the incomparable view of Mount Qingcheng--an inspiration to artists throughout the centuries as well as to Hollywood (seen in Kungfu Panda 2). Other sights include the Kuanzhaixiangzi, People’s Park, Tianfu Square, Sichuan Opera, Happy Valley, Jinsha Archeological Site and the adorable pandas at Chengdu Zoo.
