Transportation The city is well connected with different modes of transportation such as taxis, public buses, trishaws and Andongs. Sight seeing Taman Jurug , a recreational park, is located adjacent to the famous Bengawan Solo River. This park has a natural animal habitatand is equipped with a gigantic aquarium. In addition to that, there is also an auditorium/hall for cultural performances.
Pasar Klewer , is the main market which is mostly frequented by locals. You can find a wide range of goods here, ranging from textile and clothes to food to all kinds of accessories. Its prime location makes it an activity hub for the locals.
The Gajad Mungkur Dam is located about 35 kilometers north of Surakarta town. It was initially build to protect the town from the yearly flood as well as to facilitate the farming irrigation system.
This area is now a tourism spot and is a hit for those to loves to fish and enjoys water sports such as jet-skiing and kayaking. The place is complete with a floating restaurant that serves a variety of mid Javanese cuisine.
Tawangmangu is only 40 kilometers to the east of Solo. It is located at the foot of the Lawu Mountain and its atmosphere is very cooling. It has the famed “Grojogan Sewu” waterfall and is complete with camping sites, swimming pool and children playground.
