Banda Aceh is the province capital of the Special Region of Aceh and is located in the northwest of the Archipelago Islands. Established in April 22, 1205 by Sultan Alaidin Johansyah, Banda Aceh is one of the oldest Islamic cities in Southeast Asia. It serves as  a strategic trading and cultural point for Chinese, European, Indian and Arabic merchants. Aceh is also the dissemination point of Islamic teachings and culture in Indonesia. Aceh’s history are marked and stamped with the British and Dutch influences after the death of Sultan Iskandar Thani in 1641. However their religion, cultures, manners and morals are of utmost importance and have influenced the people of Banda Aceh.

Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam has an area of 57,365 square kilometer. Most regions are  covered with forest, rich with economic commodities of oil and gas and other agriculture products.

There are several mountains along the Bukit Barisan Mountain range such as Pasee Mountain, Peut Sagoe, Gayo Mountain, Ucap Malu Mountain, Alas Mountain, Aceh Raya and Seulawah Inong Mountain. Laut Tawar in Central Aceh is 60 square kilometers and located at the height of 1,225 meters above sea level and Lake Aneuk Laot in Sabang of the Weh Island. There are many rivers in Aceh, many of which run into the Straits of Malacca such as Kreung Aceh, Kreung Peusangan, Kreung Jambo Aye, Kreung Baro, Kreung Peureulak and Kreung Tamiang while those that run into the Indonesian Ocean are the Kreung Teunom, Kreung Meureubo, Kreung Kluet, Kreung Simpang Kiri and Kreung Simpang Kanan. The small and large islands are the Pulau Weh, Pulau Breuh, Pulau Nasi, Pulau Simeulue and Pulau Tuangke.
