Travel to Kota Bharu
As the state capital and royal seat of Kelantan, Kota Bharu is well-known as the cradle of Malay culture. Check out traditional arts like the wayang kulit (shadow puppetry), silat (martial arts) and wau (traditional kite) at Gelanggang Seni, and continue your day exploring other heritage sites such as Bank Kerapu (war museum), Islamic Museum, Istana Jahar (Museum of Royal Tradition and Customs), Kelantan State Museum and Balai Getam Guri, a handicraft village and craft museum. Of course, do pay Malaysia's most unique and colourful wet market (with 95% of vendors female) Pasar Siti Khadijah a visit to grab great bites, buy fresh goods or simply bask in the vibrant atmosphere. Scenic beaches such as Pantai Cahaya Bulan and Pantai Tujuh are easily accessible from the city centre, and backpackers tend to make Kota Bharu a pit stop before their beach holiday in the beautiful Perhentian Islands. Do try out the delectable Kelantan meal of Nasi Dagang, Ayam Percik, Nasi Kerabu, Laksam, and Nasi Berlauk for some lip-smacking goodness.
