Seven years since its first public appearance at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition in 2005, AirAsia made another outstanding debut this year as the inaugural winner of the ‘LIMA 2013 ASEAN Low Cost Airline of the Year’ award.
The award was conferred to the airline at the LIMA 2013 ASEAN Commercial Aviation Awards (ACAA) ceremony held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) in Langkawi yesterday. AirAsia was presented the award in recognition of the airline’s high revenue growth, profitability and above-average Revenue Passengers Kilometres (RPK).

AirAsia Group Head of Engineering, Anaz Ahmad Tajuddin attended the ceremony and received the award for AirAsia.
The ASEAN Commercial Aviation Awards, organized for the first time in conjunction with LIMA 2013, aims to acknowledge and honour amazing achievements by the ASEAN commercial aviation fraternity for 2012. The awards also aim to capture the spirit of leadership and innovation that inspire significant, broad-reaching progress in aviation.
The ‘LIMA 2013 ASEAN Low Cost Airline of the Year’ award is presented to the chosen recipient based on the growth and development of an airline over the past 3 years. The recipient of this award must demonstrate an aggressive growth strategy in financial and operational performance whilst maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and technology adoption Managing Director of LIMA 2013, Ahmad Dzuhri Abdul Wahab said, “This award category covers major Low-Cost airlines in the ASEAN region with the highest growth performance. Judging day took place on 27 February 2013 with a line-up of judges from MOT, MOTOUR, DCA, MIGHT and Frost and Sullivan. AirAsia has proved their efficiencies from the other nominated Low Cost Airlines with highest score based on general performance, operational performance and qualitative parameter”
