He runs, he kicks, and he scores! Nothing beats the adrenaline during an exciting football match. This weekend, Malaysia’s very own ‘tigers’ face their ASEAN neighbours on their home turf in the AFF Semi Finals.
Malaysia’s homegrown team Harimau Malaya faces the strong team of Thailand this weekend in Bukit Jalil Stadium for the much-coveted AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. The first leg of the semi-finals kicks off on the 9th of December 2012, where Malaysia will take on the defending champions Thailand and will be aiming for their second trophy.
The journey has not been a smooth one, albeit an inspiring one. Though losing their 1st match 3-0 to Singapore, they came back strong with wins over Laos (4-1) and Indonesia (2-0). Team captain Safiq Rahim who has been a source of inspiration especially during his signature free kicks that brought Malaysia victory over Laos, along with star player, the 21-year old Wan Zack Haikal, has given Malaysia new hope in winning the cup. Now, facing three-time champion Thailand, ASEAN will definitely be cheering for the two strong contenders, bringing countries together for the love of the sport.
The journey doesn’t end there. Right after Sunday’s match, Harimau Malaya will be jetted off in style by AirAsia for their next leg of the semi-finals in Supachalasal stadium, Bangkok. The team will be flying off with the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline 2012 for their next exciting match on the 13th of December 2012, as Malaysia (and its neighbours) waits with bated breath.
So hold up your pom poms, puff up your sofas and get ready to cheer for your favourite teams! Who do you think will walk home with the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012?
