Here’s a quick chat with Ryan Nelsen, the 35-year-old defender whose star has been shining bright ever since he joined QPR in the summer of 2012.
If you could play alongside any defender from past or present week in week out, who would it be?
Nelsen: That would have to be Ronald Koeman. He is the best passer from the back that I have ever seen and could take a great free-kick. He always stood out as a great player.
What do you do to relax when not playing?
Nelsen: Lots of stuff. I’ve got lots of interests away from football. I read a lot too. To be honest, there aren’t enough hours in the day!
Are there any jokers at the club?
Nelsen: Yeah, plenty! In fact, there’s far too many. It’s too difficult to pick out who is the biggest one.
Is there any good advice you could pass onto young aspiring players?
Nelsen: Listen and learn. No matter who you are, always come into training ready to learn.
What’s the best piece of advice any coach has given you?
Nelsen: You can always get better. No matter how well you play or how good you are, there’s always room for you to improve yourself. And remember, football never stands still.
