Travel 3Sixty had the chance to meet and talk with Jamie Mackie, the striker whose never-say-die-attitude had helped to turn the table around for the Rangers in numerous matches he participated in.
Which player, past and present would you most like to play alongside?
I’ve got a couple. Heidar Helguson would be one because he was great to play with, just incredible. He’s a machine, he just doesn’t feel pain! He didn’t always get the credit and recognition he deserved but he was unbelievable for the team. The other would be Les Ferdinand, an absolute legend at QPR who scored loads of goals for the club. I think if I played alongside him, he’d help me get a few goals as well.
Who was biggest influence when growing up?
That would probably be Alex Inglethorpe. He is at Liverpool as a coach now. He was my coach when I was younger and saw me through into playing first-team football. I am still in contact with him now.
What is your pre-match meal?
It changes every week. I’m not very set in my ways like that. I eat whatever I feel like eating really, although it is obviously fairly heavily carbs based so that I have enough energy for the match, but I am always changing it.
What has been your favourite goal you’ve scored to date?
It would have to be the winner against Liverpool last season at Loftus Road when we came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. It was a really important three points and I’ll always remember that. It meant a lot to me because I came off the bench in that game so I was pleased with the impact I had.
