    Rose Garden Hotel Yangon

Walking into the Rose Garden Hotel Yangon, I immediately absorbed the luxury hotel’s two distinctive vibes: business and leisure. The juxtaposition between super-efficient conference rooms and art galleries where guests could linger unhurriedly over paintings, put this hotel right between both worlds.

    PARKROYAL Yangon

PARKROYAL Yangon is ensconced in the heart of the financial centre of the largest city in Myanmar, within the vicinity of La Pyayt Wun Plaza, Prime Hill and Sakura Tower. It is no wonder then that it is the accommodation of choice for expatriate and local movers and shakers, as proven by the multitude of businessmen in suits and local dignitaries in flowing longyi (traditional Burmese sarong) schmoozing at the lobby bar.

    Vintage Luxury Yacht Hotel

I was standing on the balcony of my cabin admiring the cocoa-coloured Yangon River when the phone in my room began to ring. Running back inside, I found myself at a momentary loss as my eyes settled on a vintage black candlestick telephone complete with a brass dial and a receiver that dangled on a fork. Unsure as to which part to speak into, I tried to recall scenes from the British period drama Downton Abbey.

Many hotels care for the environment by advising guests to preserve resources. But at Belum Rainforest Resort, under the EMKAY Group, they walk the talk by taking guests on a journey that showcases exactly what it is they’re preserving. Located on Banding Island in the man-made Temenggor Lake – just two hours from Penang International Airport – the resort serves as a gateway to the Belum-Temenggor Tropical Rainforest, which dates back some 130 million years!

The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa

As the golden orb dipped into the amber sea, leaving paragliders suspended in their rays, I inhaled the salty air and sipped my Langkawi Wowee (a fruity concoction of Teacher’s whiskey, Malibu, Bacardi, mango juice, pineapple juice, coconut milk and grenadine syrup), thoroughly enjoying my evening at what was, in the 80s, a hippie hangout known as Coco Jam Bar.

    Gaya Island Resort

A 15-minute boat ride from Jesselton Point brought me to the mesmerising island of Gaya, which is part of Sabah’s Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Its dense and untouched forest, as well as the clear waters of Malohom Bay provided the perfect setting for Gaya Island Resort, my weekend abode. From the first sight of this breathtaking five-star, YTL-owned resort, I knew that I was going to have a delightful weekend.
