The allure of Four Seasons Resort Langkawi begins with its location. Situated on an island coloured by legends, this 91-room property spread across 48 hectares of lush tropical gar-dens and fronting the Andaman Sea on Langkawi’s northern shore certainly inspires romance. Five-metre high red laterite walls at the resort’s entrance make guests feel as if they’re entering a private world. The property itself is divided into two zones: north for families and south for honeymooning couples or guests seeking quiet.

In a city like Bangkok, it pays to stay in a hotel in the heart of the action. My base for a recent Bangkok weekend was the Grande Centre Point Hotel Ploenchit, a newly-refurbished 31-storey hotel along tree-lined Wireless Road. In a city that never sleeps, location is everything. I was fortunate the hotel was situated in upmarket Ploenchit and close to the main shopping and entertainment hubs of Siam Square, Ratchaprasong, Sukhumvit and Silom.

Some 27 years ago, this was one of the first hotels to open on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, just metres away from Nana BTS Station. Perhaps the owners foresaw the future by naming it The Landmark Bangkok because this property is truly a landmark in the city, not only because of its location, but also because of its enduring legacy and endearing charm.

There’s something wonderfully decadent about holidaying on a private island, and you’ll certainly be spoiled rotten when you visit Vivanta by Taj, Rebak Island Langkawi – the only resort on this beautiful island. Just about seven minutes by speedboat from Port Cenang on the main island of Langkawi, Rebak Island is a lush 390 acre paradise cupped by the warm Andaman Sea, with a coastline of secluded beaches and stunning rock formations, and a verdant forest that’s millions of years old.
