    A Royal Respite

Space is a luxury in central Bangkok and real estate prices generally match the upwards spiral towers take hoping to find that elusive inch of operating space. The Sukhothai Bangkok defies this trend, but that’s because it is one of the grand ole’ dames of Bangkok built in the early 90s before other luxury brands found their roosting grounds in Bangkok.

    Beacon of Bangkok

I’ve walked past the lebua Hotel tower countless times when in the City of Angels and often, strained my neck trying to decipher its number of floors or trace the tower right to its pinnacle. The monolithic building is pretty imposing and rises like a citadel, easily dwarfing nearby skyscrapers. The golden orb on the top shines like a bright beacon, mesmerising anyone who cares to tilt his head heavenwards and cast eyes upon this iconic building near the Chao Phraya River. I often wondered who visited this magical kingdom in the sky and who had the privilege of dining so high up in the blue.

    City Slicker

My visit to Sunway Hotel Georgetown after 10 years brought back an interesting memory as something strange happened when my party was leaving the property. We lost the car key, despite the owner insisting she’d seen it seconds earlier, while the presence of a crow perched on the bonnet, cawing its head off made it a tad freakish!

    Casuarina Delight

For the ultimate vacation, drop by JivaRhu Wellness & Beauty Retreat and indulge in the restorative powers of a traditional Malay massage. Lathering me with generous amounts of herbal oils, my therapist uses her thumbs and palms, and long calming strokes to gently induce blissful slumber. When I awaken an hour later, I feel refreshed and ready for a dip in the spa’s Jacuzzi. As I sip my ginger tea and bite into refreshing slices of watermelon, I enjoy the warm bubbles and ponder an extremely crucial matter – what shall I have for dinner?
