Follow the inspiring journey of Allstar captains in Captain Lim Khoy Hing’s Sky Tales: More
Insights from a Life in the Skies, and Captain Monika Anggreini’s Iron Bird Monika
KUALA LUMPUR, 7 OCTOBER 2017
AirAsia, the world’s best low-cost airline, today officially
launched two books authored by its Allstar (AirAsia staff) captains, Captain Lim Khoy Hing and Captain
Monika Anggreini, at AirAsia’s inflight magazine, travel 3Sixty°’s tenth year anniversary carnival at
Fahrenheit88, Bukit Bintang.
The launch event was attended by Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Berhad Executive
Chairman and AirAsia X Group CEO; Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group CEO; Benyamin
Ismail, AirAsia X CEO; Captain Lim Khoy Hing, ex-pilot and current AirAsia X Flight Simulator
Instructor; and Captain Monika Anggreini, Indonesia AirAsia Captain.
Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group CEO said, “We consider ourselves to be a dream factory
where people are encouraged to pursue their passion. We have always motivated all Allstars to dare to
dream and never say no for an answer. Who says you can’t be a pilot and a writer at the same time? And
I am proud that we have two incredible captains under our wing that have done exactly this, to not only
achieve their dreams of publishing a book, but more importantly, demystify the flying experience for our
guests, inspire many budding pilots, and encourage women to go out there and dream the impossible.”
A follow-up to Captain Lim’s first bestseller in 2013, Life in the Skies: Everything You Want To Know
About Flying, his second book titled Sky Tales: More Insights from a Life in the Skies touches on a new
collection of tips, anecdotes and insights into his distinguished flying career penned down in an
entertaining and enlightening style. With a total of 25,500 flying hours over 80 destinations, Captain Lim
began flying with AirAsia Group in 2006 until his retirement in 2011. He is currently a flight simulator
instructor with AirAsia X and a contributor for the Pilot Perspective column under the travel 3Sixty°
magazine.
“I am excited to continue my lifetime dream of writing this sequel by sharing more stories from my flying
experience to people who are interested in learning more about the different aspects of air travel - be it
aspiring pilots, frequent travellers or even fearful flyers. Aside from lighthearted topics on passengers
etiquette to airplane toilets for the curious minds, aviation safety remains at the core in this extension
which sets out to showcase how far airlines and its staff go to ensure the utmost safety and comfort of
their passengers is met,” said Captain Lim.
During the event, Indonesia AirAsia’s first female pilot, Captain Monika, also announced the launch of her
upcoming English-language debut book, Iron Bird Monika, which is a translated copy of her first book
released last year, Burung Besi Monika: Kisah Pilot Perempuan Dengan Semangat Tiga Kali Lipat Pilot
Pria. The book is a tale of courage and willpower that follows the remarkable journey of Captain Monika in becoming a female captain. Captain Monika first started her career as a pilot with Indonesia AirAsia in
2005 and became a captain for the airline in 2014.
“With the aviation industry being a more male-dominated sector, I hope to inspire and encourage future
female pilots to chase their dreams and fly the skies with unyielding spirits through my story. I am
grateful to be part of an airline that encourages its staff to take on challenges while at the same time
provides the opportunities and platform needed to help individuals grow further,” said Captain Monika.
Interested readers may purchase Captain Lim’s Sky Tales: More Insights from a Life in the Skies onboard
