AirAsia Continues to Support Malaysia’s Fight Against Cancer

#AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Carnival & Concert aims to drive greater public participation and awareness of the disease

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 OCTOBER 2016

AirAsia Berhad continues to underscore its commitment to cancer support in Malaysia and is glad to announce that it will be organising the upcoming “#AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Carnival & Concert” on Sunday, 30 October 2016, at Avenue K Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur from 10.00AM to 10.00PM to serve as a public platform to garner greater support and awareness for the fight against cancer.

The day-long event will feature key highlights including complimentary health examinations, health talks, special offers by healthcare service providers, organic food sampling and sales, cancer information display, a cheque presentation to MAKNA and most excitingly, performances by Malaysia’s leading artistes such as Dato Siti Nurhaliza, Joe Flizzow, Sona One, Kaka Azraff and many more

It will be open to the public and admission is free. AirAsia, together with the National Cancer Council of Malaysia (MAKNA), encourage and welcome people from all walks of life to participate and give their support to this meaningful event.

Running for the second consecutive year, the #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign was initiated in 2015 and reflects the airline’s long-term corporate social responsibility partnership with the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA). The campaign’s main objective is to help raise funds for cancer patients and educate the general Malaysian public on the risks of the disease through various public outreach activities.

The “#AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Carnival & Concert” will be the culmination of this year’s #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign, following a successful month-long fund-raising effort where AirAsia pledged a contribution of 10 cents from every flight booking made on www.airasia.com from 15 August to 16 September 2016 as donation to MAKNA. In addition to this, AirAsia also supported MAKNA’s “Klimb Kinabalu 2016” expedition in August this year, where 13 climbers including four AirAsia Allstars (employees) scaled to the summit of Mount Kinabalu to raise funds and awareness on cancer cause.

Last year’s #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign raised close to RM200,000 in donation for MAKNA, and this year’s donation amount will be announced during the event.

Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia Berhad said, “AirAsia is extremely delighted to be able to leverage on our brand visibility and reach to render our support towards the important work that MAKNA does in providing curative, preventive, research and support services to underprivileged cancer patients and their families in Malaysia.”

“Unfortunately, cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases today and is affecting millions of people globally. Almost everyone knows someone who is affected by it, be it a relative, friend or colleague. For a cancer patient and the family, fighting and overcoming the disease is always the single most important goal, and for people who are in the cancer high-risk group, getting all the available knowledge and guidance on how to prevent the disease is very crucial.”
