Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad said, “We are very proud to receive our guests from Ho Chi Minh City into Penang today. AirAsia is the only airline to service this route, connecting Penangites and the northern community to the vibrant city of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. This is our sixth international route from Penang and we look forward to strengthen this hub even further with better connectivity.”

“We have also recently added direct connectivity from Yangon, Myanmar into Penang which will begin in March and we hope that these routes will promote more travel and trade between both Asean cities,” she added.

For instance, Penang International Airport’s maximum capacity of 6.5 million passengers has achieved in 2015; five years ahead of the scheduled 2020. AirAsia also celebrated two other inaugural flight commencements recently, the first from Wuhan into Kota Kinabalu on 22 January and from Guangzhou into Langkawi yesterday, 24 January.

Vietnam offers travellers an opportunity to discover the country’s unchanged traditions that overlaps with long-time French colonial influence and its breathtaking coastline. A visit first to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as ‘Saigon’), is the perfect starting point for exploring southern Vietnam; the city that is bustling with a fury of sights and sounds. Much of the fun for being in the country’s centre of commerce is something that is best done from the seat of a roadside café with a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee, ‘Ca Phe Sua Da’ and then take a stroll to the city’s centre famous architectural marvels, the Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral.

To appreciate the local culture, travellers can sample a myriad of fresh produce and food offerings from Ba Chieu Market, a local market off the beaten path for the famous baguette sandwich, ‘Banh Mi’ or some ‘Com Tam’, a ‘broken rice’ style dish topped with grilled meat; or go shopping for various types of quality fabric at affordable prices at the famed Ben Thanh Market. If you have an interest in history, visit The War Remnants museum or the famed Cu Chi tunnels for a glimpse into what life was during the war.
