AirAsia pledges support to cancer cause

AirAsia Berhad to donate 10 cents of every online flight booking from 15 August - 16 September to National Cancer Council of Malaysia (MAKNA)

AirAsia Berhad has once again partnered up with the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) to help raise funds for the cancer patients and educate Malaysians on the perils of the illness. For this year’s #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign, the airline will be contributing 10 cents of each flight booking made on from 15 August - 16 September 2016 to MAKNA.

#AirAsiaMAKNA is a campaign initiated in 2015 and is part of the airline’s long-term commitment to support MAKNA in their cause to help cancer patients who might not be able to afford the treatment.

Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad said, “An alarming number of Malaysians are affected by cancer and it is now the second leading cause of death in the country. This is the reason AirAsia has adopted cancer awareness as one of our committed CSR project and we are pleased to partner with MAKNA who mobilises resources to provide curative, preventive, research and support services to cancer patients and their family members”.

“In 2015, we raised close to RM200,000 via #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign and an additional RM65,000 via Travelling Beruang project. Along the way, we have met so many amazing people from cancer fighters to cancer survivors and the selfless MAKNA volunteers, who have shown us how important it is keep doing what we do. This year we are inviting our guests to be part of the campaign -- for one month, every booking made on our website will translate into support towards MAKNA,” she added.

“MAKNA is, foremost, grateful to partner with AirAsia on the #AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 fundraising campaign. We appreciate the continued support AirAsia has given MAKNA, which has enabled us to provide uninterrupted aid to cancer patients and to continue mobilising resources to help not just patients, but also their families, and high-risk groups. We hope that just like AirAsia, more would see the importance of helping cancer patients and of raising cancer awareness so that people take better ownership of their health,” Farahida Mohd Farid, General Manager of MAKNA said.

AirAsia is leveraging on its brand visibility and wide reach to build stronger awareness towards cancer and cancer prevention through this long-term campaign.
