AirAsia X flight D7 776 successfully took off yesterday evening at
7.05pm, making its inaugural direct flight into the Iranian capital of Tehran from Kuala Lumpur with
three times weekly flight.
Arik De, Head of Commercial for AirAsia X Berhad along with other members of the
management were at the departure gate to send-off guests on board the inaugural flight with
surprised activities and goodies giveaway to celebrate the occasion.
Commenting on AirAsia X’s inaugural flight to Tehran, Arik De said, “We are glad to see that our
guests boarding the inaugural flight to Tehran are as excited as we are! We are confident that this
new route will stimulate new travel demand and boost tourism and business potential for us and the
two countries. Iran is a huge market to tap into and we will look forward to deepening our footprint
in the region, and ensuring Malaysians and other citizens of ASEAN can fly further with us!”
“The commencement of this route is timed perfectly to complement the group’s growing flight
network in Kuala Lumpur, where the connectivity with ASEAN, China and Australia are being
optimised with the new destinations and frequencies that we have introduced across the short and
long haul network,” added Arik.
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Alborz mountain range, Tehran city is the capital of Iran and
a bustling metropolis of 14 million people. This cosmopolitan city houses many great museums, parks
and amazing local restaurants that will leave all visitors enchanted. As prominent fixtures of the
Tehran skyline, the Milad Tower standing at 435 metre is the tallest tower in Iran, perfect for those
hoping to catch an aerial view of the city; while the historical Azadi Tower built in 1971 will leave
tourists in awe for its 8,000 marble blocks that will glow under special lighting at night and is one of
the symbols of Tehran.
Another architecture marvel of the city not to be missed is the UNESCO World Heritage site Golestan
Palace. It is part of a former royal complex from the Qajar era that includes palaces and museums,
decorated with intricately carved marble and mirrored halls.
