As the first of its kind in Malaysia, F.A.C.E.S. is a facial recognition boarding system owned and operated by AirAsia, with the purpose of creating a seamless travel process for guests. After enrolling in the system, you will be able to quickly pass through airport security and board your flight!

Cool, so how do I use it?

Step 1
Enrol for F.A.C.E.S.
(one-time only or until passport expires / replacement of MyKad) at enrolment kiosk with your passport and/or MyKad (for Malaysia domestic flights)

Step 2
Perform check-in (may also be done before enrolment) and baggage drop

Step 3
Go to airport security checkpoint, scan your boarding pass and go through verification process by airport authorities

Step 4
Clear immigration as per usual (for international flights)

Step 5
Walk up to the auto boarding gate for facial recognition and board flight

*F.A.C.E.S. requires guests to complete all steps for successful boarding and the service is currently available for flights departing Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru only.

What is the Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (F.A.C.E.S)?
F.A.C.E.S. is Malaysia’s first facial recognition system which enables you to quickly pass through security and board your flight. It is fully owned and operated by AirAsia.
What is facial recognition?
Facial recognition is a form of biometric identification. AirAsia is using facial recognition technology as part of a digital identity system. The system uses cameras to identify individuals, reducing the need for guests to show or scan their travel documents. Registered travellers are identified as they approach the auto boarding gates and allowed to board their flight directly. However, they will still be required to check in for flights as per usual.
Why is AirAsia introducing F.A.C.E.S.?
As part of the airline's commitment towards becoming a digital airline, AirAsia aims to transform guests' airport experience and improve the boarding process while reducing the amount of time it takes to board an aircraft. This step forward to digitise our operations is a first in the country, and we hope to work with other airports in Malaysia in the future to use this technology, and revolutionise the way people travel.
What are the key benefits of F.A.C.E.S.?
With F.A.C.E.S., we aim to speed up security clearance and the boarding process.
Where can I use F.A.C.E.S.?
Currently, you can only use the service at Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru.
When can I clear security and board via F.A.C.E.S?
Pre-informed guests of selected flights can participate in the soft launch starting 24 January 2018. The official public launch will be on 6 February 2018.
Who is eligible to clear security and board via F.A.C.E.S?
Guests who are 18 years old and above, with a height of 145 – 190cm, have a valid passport or MyKad ID are eligible to clear security and board via F.A.C.E.S. However, the following guests are not eligible:
- Guest(s) travelling with infant(s)
- Guest(s) below 18 years of age and travelling alone
- Guest(s) with reduced mobility and/or requires special assistance
- Guest(s) with medical condition/illness
These guests will need to go through the usual security screening and boarding process.
How does F.A.C.E.S. work?
To enrol:
- Guests will need their passport or MyKad ID in order to activate the facial recognition process.
- MyKad allows for domestic travel only whereas passport allows for domestic and international travel.
- Guests who have completed their enrolment process will then be required to go through the Passenger Reconciliation System (PRS) for security verification which is manned by airport security (AVSEC).
To board:
- Guests simply authenticate their identity with the facial recognition system or scan their boarding/e-boarding pass at the auto boarding gate.
How many F.A.C.E.S. kiosks and auto boarding gates have been installed at Senai International Airport?
Currently, there is one (1) facial recognition enrolment kiosk and three (3) auto boarding gates installed at Gate 1, 2, and 3 at Senai International Airport.
Does F.A.C.E.S. also include immigration and border processing?
As of 6 February 2018, F.A.C.E.S. does not include immigration and border processing, as the first phase is focused on the use of facial recognition at airport security checkpoint and boarding. Hence, guests will have to go through the immigration counter manually.
How long is the enrolment process and do I need to arrive at the airport earlier to enrol?
The process takes about 30 seconds from start to finish, and can be done any time (even before/after check-in closes).
What if the enrolment kiosk is not functioning / enrolment process is unsuccessful?
Guests can skip the enrolment process and proceed with security clearance and boarding as per usual.
Can F.A.C.E.S. recognise twins that travel together?
Yes, twins can enrol and use the system.
Are pregnant women allowed to use F.A.C.E.S.?
Yes. Please refer to Article 7.4 in our Terms and Conditions of Carriage.
If I have already enrolled but still face a problem with the system later on, what do I do?
You can ask our staff to help with manual checking.
What happens if the kiosk/system is unable to read a MyKad chip?
Guest will not be able to enrol and will need to replace his/her MyKad.
Can F.A.C.E.S. be used for all flights departing Senai International Airport?
After a one-time enrolment, guests may use it for any flights departing the airport.
If I need assistance with the kiosk/system, will there be AirAsia staff around to help?
Yes, we will have staff at the kiosk to provide assistance.
Do I need to enrol again after renewing my passport?
Yes, because your old passport number will no longer be valid.
