KUALA LUMPUR, 11 NOVEMBER 2014
Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad was
awarded the 'Outstanding Achievement' Award under the CEO category at the inaugural Malaysian
Women of Excellence 2014 awards ceremony held yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.
The Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor presented the award to Aireen
Omar, as well as the other award recipients of the night.
Aireen was among the four women CEOs to be recognized last night, and the other three are Managing
Director & CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Bank, Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz; Managing Director of
AEON Co. (M) Bhd, Nur Qamarina Chew; and Managing Director of Grace Communication Sdn Bhd, Datuk
There were a total of 47 winners last night, selected from 2,000 nominees based on their individual
qualities of vision, leadership, achievement, corporate, performance and community engagement.
Aireen Omar commented, “I feel very honoured and humbled to receive this recognition, and it is great
that the society is doing something to recognize the contribution of women towards the nation. This
serves as motivation for all of us to strive for greater success in our respective fields, and hopefully what
we do will also inspire next generations of women to achieve the same. I am very proud that at AirAsia, all of us are given equal opportunities regardless of gender, and this has contributed immensely towards
creating an environment that encourages creativity and positions of leadership for women.”
The Malaysian Women of Excellence Awards is supported by the Ministry of Women, Family and
Community Development, and was created to recognize outstanding Malaysian women who have
contributed greatly and excelled in their fields of expertise. It thrives on providing a platform for
inspirational and extraordinary experiences of women, and being the support base to aspire more women
to reach greater heights.
