KUALA LUMPUR, 30 APRIL 2016
Vivy Yusof, Aireen Omar and Andrew Tan revealed the Top 10 Malaysian finalists for AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2016.
Ten young aspiring designers have been shortlisted for a chance to represent Malaysia and compete at the Grand Finale of AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2016 which will be held in Kuala Lumpur this August.
The Top 10 were selected from a total of 487 online submissions who turned up for the Malaysian leg of the Asean-wide designer search auditions held today in JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur. The auditions will continue in Singapore and Bangkok subsequently to look for top young designers to represent each country.
This designer search, which has entered its second year-running is part of AirAsia’s continuous efforts in developing talents and empowering youth across the region and will be a platform for young aspiring designers across the region to catapult their careers in the fashion industry.
The Top 10 revealed today went through two rounds of judging and were selected based on design creativity and originality, consistency of their collection, adherence to the Asean theme, practicality and stage presentation.
The panel of judges consists of Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad; Andrew Tan, Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear; Vivy Yusof, Founder of FashionValet; Alia Bastamam, Fashion Designer; and Suzie Adnan, Editor-in-Chief of GLAM Malaysia.
Ms. Aireen Omar, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Berhad said, “AirAsia has always been devoted to support the talents of tomorrow and with that in mind, we have expanded this year’s search to 5 Asean countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines in search for the Top 3 young designers to represent each country.”
“Since the establishment of AARRDS in 2015, we are impressed with not only the growing number of submissions that came in online, but also with the quality of vision displayed in their sketches which continues to highlight the level of talent in the Asean region. It was not easy for us to narrow down to the Top 10 Malaysian finalists today, therefore we will deliberate further and shortlist the Top 3 finalists next month who will compete at the Grand Finale this August.”
Andrew Tan, Founder of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready to Wear shared, “It is such an honour to share this platform with AirAsia – to foster new talents and giving these designers the opportunity to present their collection and creativity on a professional runway. We are thrilled to be working with AirAsia again, following last year’s success and to bring this year’s competition to another level. This year’s competition is more challenging for our local aspiring fashion designers but I believe this is also a golden opportunity for students to exchange creative ideas with their counterpart.”
Vivy Yusof, Founder of FashionValet said, “FashionValet is honoured to be a part of this year’s AARRDS as the competition expands regionally. FV has always provided a platform for local designers to connect with a larger audience and we are proud to be able to assist the winner in creating their own line that will be exclusively available on FV. The auditions have been tough for the judges so far as the talent we have seen are exceptional, and I cannot wait to see the collection from the finalists in August.”
