Mok Ying Ren flies high with AirAsia

Singapore, 17 April 2013

AirAsia, the world’s best low cost airline, today announced a three-year sponsorship worth S$ 100,000 with Singaporean National Triathlete and Marathon runner, Dr Mok Ying Ren (Mok).

The sponsorship includes flights for all of Mok’s overseas training, Marathons and races. The partnership is set to provide the necessary support and funding, as Mok embarks on his dream of representing Singapore at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Local supporters of Mok will also benefit from the sponsorship agreement, as AirAsia offers attractive travel packages for fans supporting Mok on his overseas training or races. In celebration of the joyous partnership, AirAsia is offering an all-in fare from S$ 45 for flights from Singapore to Kota Bharu, Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu, Jakarta, Bandung and more. At a young age of 26, Mok is already widely recognized as Singapore’s premier long distance runner. In the recent 2013 SEA Games at Myanmar, Mok became the first Singaporean to win the gold medal in the Marathon event, doing the nation proud. He also topped the annual Standard Chartered Marathon by clinching the first position under the Singaporeans category just 3 weeks prior to his achievement at the SEA Games

The sponsorship agreement takes effect from 1 January 2014 to 1 January 2017.

AirAsia is no stranger when it comes to helping with the development of youth and sports in the region as the airline has been involved in supporting a number of young talents and sporting events. In 2013, AirAsia signed up as the official airline partner of the Football Association of Singapore where it covers all flights for the Under-21, Under-23 and the senior national teams, National Football Academy age-group teams and women’s team.
