#AirAsiaMAKNA In A Nutshell

More than just a hashtag, #AirAsiaMAKNA is our long-term Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that began in 2015. Through this campaign, we at AirAsia Berhad aim to raise funds for the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) to aid underprivileged cancer patients in Malaysia while raising greater awareness on the deadly disease.

But why are we supporting this cause?

Well, did you know that 1 out of 4 Malaysians will develop cancer by 75 years old? This makes the big C one of the leading causes of death in the country and the prevalence of cancer continues to rise.

Furthermore, it was reported that a cancer diagnosis in Southeast Asia is potentially disastrous with over 75% of patients experiencing financial catastrophe within one year according to the Asean Cost in Oncology (ACTION) study.

Aside from the worries of getting better, the costly treatment is another heavy burden for patients and family members – especially for the underprivileged communities that may not have the means to afford it.

Many of our Allstars (AirAsia employees) have also been through the pain of caring for loved ones or who have battled cancer themselves. In fact, this campaign was initiated and driven by our Allstars who have discovered a deep sense of purpose to help others who are experiencing the same ordeal.

Through the #AirAsiaMAKNA campaign, we hope to give back to the various communities by extending our support to underprivileged patients and families through fundraising activities and special events.
