#AirAsiaMAKNA Cancer Benefit Event & Concert
Following the successful inception in 2015, we wanted to go bigger and better with the help of our fellow travellers. From 15 August until 16 September, we pledged 10 cents for every booking made on our site to continue our aid in helping underprivileged patients in need.
We managed to raise a resounding RM350,000 in our fight against cancer resulting to the total funds accumulated thus far to more than RM650,000 since 2015.
To celebrate the success of the campaign, we decided to bring together continuous awareness efforts with the sound of music by hosting the #AirAsiaMAKNA 2016 Cancer Benefit Event & Concert.
The special event was held at Avenue K where the cheque presentation ceremony was led by Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia Berhad to Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, MAKNA Board of Trustee.
The event featured performances by local celebrities such as Kaka Azraff, SonaOne, Joe Flizzow and Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza, apart from other event highlights such as free clinical examinations, health talks, healthy food sampling and sale, special discounts for health products, as well as cancer information display
The “Klimb Kinabalu 2016” Expedition
We embarked on the challenge of conquering the highest mountain on the island of Borneo as four of our very own Allstars joined nine other climbers from MAKNA to scale Mount Kinabalu in August.
The expedition helped us continue our conversation on cancer and further raise funds for the organisation. To us, the inspiring achievement of all climbers reaching to the top represents a symbol of hope for all cancer fighters and survivors to stay strong in their fight and to never give up.
The commitment shown by the climbers is an inspiration to all which served as a milestone as MAKNA successfully raised over RM100,000 throughout the excursion.
The Fight Never Stops: #Zakibijak
Always armed with a bright smile and an exuberant personality, we were inspired when we first heard of Mohd Zakiyamin bin Azman’s (or famously known as Zaki Bijak on Facebook) quest to hitchhike in Peninsular Malaysia.
His mission to raise cancer awareness is a noble feat but also something close to his heart as he is a cancer fighter himself.
After a successful trip in West Malaysia, he decided to continue on to East Malaysia and we decided to give him a little helping hand by flying him to Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur. Little did we know, the experience was a memorable one as it was his first time being on a plane!
It was an enriching journey as he met new people and conducted activities such as hospital visits, going on radio talk shows, trying out new things in the city and hunting for local delicacies like a true Malaysian. Before heading back home, Zaki decided to go south to Singapore to join a cancer survivor event with fellow fighters.
Thank you, Zaki, for letting us be a part of your remarkable journey from across Malaysia to Singapore!
